Our Primary students have completed their three terms in the first language that they are studying this year and Miss Spencer and Miss Redondo are both extremely pleased with their progress. Years 3 and 4 have been studying Spanish and have covered greetings, numbers, ages, Christmas and a project on animals at the zoo. They have now moved onto French!
Years 5 and 6 have been studying French this year and covered greetings, numbers, ages, Christmas and a project on sports and have since begun to tackle the Spanish language!
Oxford Trip- Some of our students in Spanish went on a trip to Oxford in the last week of February with students from other Haberdashers schools. Once we arrived there with the mini bus, we attended a session in student learnt about how useful doing a degree on languages can be and the kind of things Oxford University is looking for from future students and how to apply to study at any of the colleges. After that, students were separated in three groups with students from other schools from around the country. Some students got a chance to learn a bit of Ancient Greek while others tried out translating bits and pieces from Harry Potter. The different groups also had a chance to explore three of the most important colleges at Oxford University and met with current students who answered all their questions. All in all, it was a great day for our students in which they learnt many things, met knew people and got a better picture of what a degree in languages can offer them in the future.
Cambridge Trip- Nine Year 9 students went on a trip to Cambridge to learn about studying languages at Oxbridge. Students heard from current undergraduates, went on a tour of the college and had a taster lesson in Japanese. Dennis writes:
